Team Leader - Software Developer
The Role:
We're looking for a technical team lead to join our talented Product Development team. You'll be working on our Birthday in a Box e-commerce property. We're looking for someone who loves constant change and also loves the Web. If you are passionate about creating beautiful code, and have strong opinions about design patterns you'll likely fit in well with our group. We like developers who have a strong team focus - those who crave design debates, rather than shy away from them.
In this role, you and your team will be maintaining our existing platform which includes an e-commerce website, an order management system, a print-on-demand service and various administrative tools. At the same time, you will be involved in the implementation of our next generation platform. You'll be working hand in hand with a Project Manager to manage the team's projects.
We are an agile shop, focused on highly iterative development with an emphasis on delivering code. Our developers love to get their work in the hands of customers everyday. In return for your hard work, you'll feel appreciation and respect - as well as be treated to the best development machines and tools available. We need developers who are up to the challenge of designing and maintaining our next generation applications and mentoring our less seasoned developers in how to build best of breed Web applications.
Your Qualifications/Experiences should include some (or most) of below:
- You've had multiple years of experience as a technical team leader and enjoy being hands on with development.
- You understand how to balance time, scope and quality when working with legacy systems.
- You know the popular affiliate networks and understand core concepts of Web based affiliate programs.
- You know what the browser DOM is, and maybe even know how the Mozilla DOM differs from the one for IE.
- You've built numerous web sites and have knowledge of Object Oriented programming and design.
- You can list off a collection of shopping cart best practices.
- You've worked with open source and commercial e-commerce systems
- You can talk to us about techniques for scaling a website with massive traffic increases.
- You use an RSS reader everyday, and love keeping up-to-date on the latest Web 2.0 offerings.
- You aren't religious about technologies; you pick the right tool for the job at hand. You are comfortable jumping from .NET to Java given time to prepare.
- You truly believe that software development is meant to be iterative and adaptive.
- You know what we mean when we say 'obfuscate and minify that javascript'.
- You like to read books about software development and have a book on your night stand right now.
- You understand why code reviews are worth doing.
- You know how and why you use branching in source code control systems.
- You know you aren't a graphic designer, but you can do the basics in Photoshop.
- You hate IE6 for its poor implementation of standards, but know how to coerce it into displaying things properly.
- You know the different ways to use caching in web applications and the benefits and drawbacks of each.
- You feel equally at home on a unix/linux shell and the Windows command prompt.
- You're comfy hand crafting mysql queries and indexes for performance-critical situations.
- You've used one of the Prototype or JQuery javascript libraries.
Technologies (take this with a grain of salt, we need solid fundamentals more than X years of Y):
